I absolutely love Earth Day!! Environmental education is one of my passions and I love teaching my first graders how they can be responsible citizens by taking care of planet Earth. I’ve compiled a list of resources that you could use in your classroom to help spread the love.
1) The National Education Association has lessons plans for grades K-12. They also have great infographics, videos, games and activities. If you are not sure what to teach and need some ideas this is a great place to start.
2) We are Teachers has awesome activities that also work for most grade levels. One activity that I really like is called “Design It …. Build It”. Students use recycled materials to design and create anything they can imagine.
3) The Lorax by Dr. Seuss is my favorite book to read on Earth Day! I simply can’t get enough of that book. Really you can read it to any grade level. Every year, I buy a small tree and my class plants it on the school grounds after we have read The Lorax. I absolutely LOVE doing this with my class and I feel that it shows them that you are never to young to make a difference in the world.
